Our Unseen Allies I like the FDR quote on my sidebar because he salutes not only our armies of liberation but also our unseen allies.
Update: According to Crossroads Arabia,Abdulrahman al-Rashed is the general manager of Al-Arabiya television who has a daily column in the pan-Arab Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.
Asharq Al-Awsat, Sept 4, 2004translated from Arabic by Amir RahimThe bitter truth is that all terrorists today are Muslimsby Abdul Rahman Al-Rashid
Definitely not all Muslims are terrorists but with great regret we can say that today most terrorists around the world are Muslims. The pupils kidnappers in Osetia are Muslims. The kidnapers and killers of the twelve Nepalese cooks are Muslims. Those practicing rape and killing of women in Darfur are Muslims and their victims are Muslims too. Those who blew up residential complexes in Riyadh and Al-Khuber are Muslims. Those who kidnapped the French journalists are Muslims. The two women who blew up two airplanes last week are Muslims. Bin Laden is Muslim, and Al-Hoothy is Muslim. Most of those who carried out suicide bombings against buses, schools and other buildings around the world for the past ten years are Muslims.
What a terrible record. Doesn’t it say something about ourselves, our culture and education? These are depressing and humiliating images for us. But instead of condemning them or justifying them we must first admit this fact and not to make declarations and speeches claiming our innocence. We can only find a cure after recognizing this disease. We must also help pursue our terrorists sons. They are the natural results of a defaced culture. Listen to sheikh Yousif Qardhawi. He issues a fatwa legalizing the killing of American civilians in Iraq. Imagine a man of religion encouraging the killing of civilians. A man of advanced old age encouraging youngsters to kill civilians while at the same time he has two daughters studying courses on security in ‘infidel’ Britain. How is it possible for a father to meet the mother of the beheaded son Nick Berg who was killed in Iraq only because he came to work on communication towers? How would we believe this man when he starts talking about the mercy and tolerance of Islam when he is transferring it to a religion of blood?
Before this recent period of extremism, we used to consider the leftists and the pan-Arab nationalists as the source of corruption as they promoted violent means to achieve their aims. The mosque used to be the haven of peace where men of religion used to be promoters of peace and good morals.
Islam is oppressed because of the behaviors of the new Muslims. Its an innocent religion. Its scripture is clear. It forbids the harmful cutting of trees and considers murder as the worst crime. It condemns even the killing of an insect and commends anyone watering a thirsty cat. This is the Islam that we knew before the emergence of the new ‘takfeer’ groups and their methods and teachings.
Of course it brings us no honor to be associated with those kidnapping pupils and journalists and those who kill civilians and those who blow up buses, no matter what amount of suffering they went through. These people are the ones who defaced the image of Islam.
We can’t improve our image unless we admit the embarrassing truth which says that most terrorist acts today are done by Muslims. We must recognize that we can’t improve the condition of our youth who carry out these acts unless we cure the mentality of our elders who have turned into revolutionary platforms, sending other sons to fight wars while they send their own sons to [the safety] of European and American schools.

Wow, this is encouraging. Perhaps now is the beginning of a rational conversation to resolve this insanity.

Encouraging indeed. Voices like this one are too seldom heard - we need to keep hearing them.
