Blow 'em Up and Throw Away The Key Big Dick beat me to the punch today. But somehow, incredibly, I don't think even he is as pissed off, outraged and just basically stupefied as I am at the things that people are capable of - and will do - for simple, pathetic and downright pointless political gain.
Anyone know where Chechnya is, folks? Well, here's a tip. It's a poor-as-piss little country/territory/something in the middle of big evil Russia that, for some misbegotten reason, decided it wanted to become a pisspot little country run, no doubt, by a tinpot dictator of its own, for few apparent reasons. The sort of country that will never make anything of itself aside from perhaps oppressing its own citizens, rather than having a larger, more powerful country to do it for them, and in more creative and intimate ways.
How this aim is important enough that taking hostage of and callously killing more than 150 children - young children, at that - is even remotely conceivable, let alone actually carried out with such aplomb and enthusiasm, tests my belief in just about anything in every way conceivable. Let me get this straight, ye people of downtrodden countries around the globe - tell me honestly, are the deaths of palpably innocent children, blown up or shot or otherwise taken down in cold blood and in probable agony, are they worth your goal to have a pisspot little country run by your own power-crazy tinpot dictator? Is this even close to being useful, in any way shape or form? Chechens should consider themselves fortunate to live in this politically correct age - thirty or forty years ago, I'd have a decent expectation that the countryside would soon be supporting a man-made plutonium mine for eternity to come.
I'm not pissed at the Russian special forces. Is this where the blame lies? They might have stuffed up the operation somewhat - but what it comes down to is that deranged, unhinged people actually thought up the idea of taking hundreds of young kids hostage, threaten to blow them up, AND THEN WENT THROUGH WITH IT. I do realise also that, so far, another 170 people have died. But let's face it - the death of adults in cold blood is a far different proposition to children, trying to go to school to learn, to eventually make something of themselves. It's not even in the same league. Blowing up and shooting adults is terrible, horrendous. To do it to children? Words are just not enough to encompass the malevolence of this act.
This isn't merely unacceptable, or a blow to the peace process in whichever fucked-up tinpot country that could possibly be involved. It is, quite simply, the heart of evil. In this age of tolerance, we have come to tolerate too much. I'll tell you what, though - I'm one seething, boiling mad red-head. The rest of you can take your platitudes, your diplomacy and your namby-pamby hand-wringing at all the evils of the world, and shove it right up your arses. Find the mongrels who did it and tie them to a tree in Siberia. If that doesn't teach them a lesson, not much will. Civilisation be damned - it's too late for that.Posted by Adam at September 4, 2004 12:42 PM TrackBack

Well put, Adam.Posted by: Leslie at September 5, 2004 11:34 AM
You are absolutely right; words are not enough. Everytime I read one of these posts I get choked up and teary eyed. I'd prefer to think of myself as NOT a girlie-man but it still happens.
Anyway, the link to your post will be included in the blogroll memorial by the end of the night.
And ease off Dick, he's got enough problems right now worrying about his ticker.Posted by: Jeremy at September 6, 2004 03:09 PM
